Mike McCabe Folsom Custom Skis

Mike McCabe

Chief Executive Officer, Master Builder

A dedicated owner, Mike is the consummate craftsman carefully assembling your new sticks. He’s been working tirelessly, and giving his all to ensure that Folsom became the successful company it is today. Mike started on the Folsom Team as a ski tester and design consultant in 2007. His task was to demand performance and durability from each ski Folsom gave him. Mike skied professionally in Freeride Competitions for many years, and at 6’2” and 200lbs, he had a knack for blowing up mass-produced skis. Mike pounded every Folsom ski he tested and they never failed to impress him both in durability and performance. In 2008, he decided to join Folsom fulltime. A master builder in his own right, Mike worked with Jordan in the Folsom Custom shop in Boulder to refine their product. With excitement and passion, Mike and his new partners took over running the company in 2011. They moved the shop to a larger space in Denver, where Mike continues to engineer, hand build, and innovate exceptionally durable customized skis while carefully managing the growth of the business. When he is not working or out enjoying the latest Folsom innovation, Mike is a talented cook, expert in boating and water sports, motorcycle enthusiast/mechanic, and explorer of Colorado’s spectacular wilderness. He drinks whiskey and Coors Light. Contact him at mike@folsomskis.com.

Christian Downing

Chief Engineer

The day Christian Downing stepped foot in the Folsom shop, the team recognized him as an incredibly hard worker. His work ethic and determination as an intern earned Christian a spot on Folsom’s full-time roster in 2015, and since then he’s graduated to the ranks of Production Manager. Christian carries with him a BS in Industrial Design from Metropolitan State University of Denver, and has been skiing the Colorado Rockies since he was 4 years old. Passionate about the products he makes and manages, Christian’s focus on craftsmanship and attention to detail set him apart from the crowd. His design work is anything but limited as he contributes to Folsom’s product design, graphic design, product testing, and everything in between. Since growing up in Colorado, Christian has been very passionate about nature and actively being outside, whether it’s fishing, skiing, skating, or playing beer games in the backyard. He can be reached at christian@folsomskis.com.

Bailey Ashe

Product Technician

Folsom’s staff utilizes the help of about 20 different qualified interns every year, but it only took us about 2 weeks to see long term potential in Bailey when he started as an intern.  Growing up in New Jersey, Bailey developed a strong ski background on the east coast’s gritty mountains.  Bailey attended Ithaca College where he studied Classical Guitar Performance and Action Sports Cinematography, but ultimately landed in Colorado through his passion for skiing.  Bailey’s keen eye for detail and manufacturing perfection made him a critical addition to Folsom’s full-time team.  Whether it was press, finish, or both, it’s very likely that Bailey played a part in building your Folsom Skis.  Outside of the shop Bailey enjoys Colorado’s great outdoors, videography, and guitar craftsmanship.  He can be reached at bailey@folsomskis.com.

Ryan Prentice

Web & Design

Inspired by his father’s career in the outdoor industry, Ryan has pursued skiing for as long as he can remember. Born and raised in Oregon, he grew up ski racing throughout the Pacific Northwest. During his time at the University of Colorado, he shifted his focus to freeskiing, forming lasting friendships with many future members of the Folsom squad. Post-college, driven by the desire to ski year-round, Ryan moved to Whistler, BC to work as a ski guide and freeskiing coach in addition to exploring various other skiing opportunities. In 2008, he became an athlete and an active member of the Folsom team, providing insight on performance and product direction. In the fall of 2011, Ryan relocated to Denver as part of the new ownership team and focused his efforts full-time on growing the brand. Today, he is a professional designer living in Crested Butte, CO and continues to assist with numerous aspects of the business. When not skiing or nursing injuries, he also enjoys cycling, snowboarding, and adventures with his dog Lucy.

GUARANTEE / WARRANTY

SATISFACTION GUARANTEE

We guarantee you will be completely satisfied with the performance of your skis with regards to the ski targets you provide and what was discussed in your custom fit consultation. We are committed to each person’s unique ski experience and making that experience the best it can be. If you are not satisfied, contact us and we will make it right. It’s that simple.

It’s extremely rare that customers don’t love their custom skis from the get go. However if after a few days of skiing you’re not feeling perfectly comfortable on them, troubleshooting techniques start with variations in the ski tune and mount point. After tune and mount point, we ask that you give the skis at least 8-10 days on snow. Only after this can the option of a rebuild be discussed. If that’s the case, we go back to the drawing board to determine what build specs will have your Folsom Skis perfectly in line with your targets and expectations, taking into consideration your initial custom fit discussion. Like your favorite pair of pants or boots, skis take time to break in and your skiing style often adapts over time to what we believe will be your dream skis. We kindly ask for your cooperation during this time.

TWO YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY

Folsom Custom Skis are warrantied for two years from date of shipment against manufacturer defects. This warranty applies only to the original purchaser and is not transferable to any other person. If you think your Folsom Custom is defective, e-mail info@folsomskis.com and describe the problem (a picture of the damaged area is encouraged). Shipping instructions and a return authorization number will be sent to you. Upon receipt of the ski(s), Folsom will inspect and determine if a manufacturing defect occurred. Folsom may repair, replace entirely, provide a discounted replacement, or send back the ski depending on this assessment. Any ski that is repaired under the original warranty shall only be covered for the remainder of the original warranty. If you receive a replacement ski(s), that ski(s) comes with a full two year warranty and a new receipt. Finally, warranty is only valid for first owner of skis. The following items deem this warranty to be void (not limited):

  • Damage from normal wear and tear
  • Damage from misuse, abuse, or neglect
  • Damage caused by impact with any surface or object other than snow (rocks, trees, stumps, rails, etc…)
  • Peeling, chipping, scratching, or any indentations in topsheet due to impact with any surface or object other than snow
  • Damage caused by improper mounting or adjustment of the bindings, including binding mountings pulling out of the ski due to excessive DIN setting
  • Damage from repeated impact of skis on sidewalks and / or roads (i.e. using skis as a “walking stick”) especially with the PowFish
  • Base damage due to impact with any surface or object other than snow
  • Graphic fading or discoloration due to improper storage or use
  • Any and all claims for consequential or incidental damages
  • Sidewall planing performed by anyone other than Folsom Skis

Please note: normal wear on skis includes mild topsheet chipping, most frequently occurring on the inside edge areas.  This does not mean the skis are delaminating, and ultimately will have no effect on the performance or longevity of the skis, it is merely cosmetic.  We put a significant topsheet bevel on all Folsom Skis, but also recognize that everyone’s skiing style is different.  If you are experiencing topsheet chipping, you may use 100-120 grit sandpaper to mitigate the chipping and smooth out the topsheet bevel.  Alternatively if you are local in CO you may bring your skis to our Denver HQ for similar treatment.

PURCHASE TERMS

Folsom Custom Skis can either be purchased online through our e-commerce platform or through any of our full-time staff members.  Deposits on custom skis are non-refundable and are typically 50% of the custom build cost, although in some instances the deposit value can be changed.  By placing a deposit on a pair of Folsom Custom Skis the purchaser agrees to pay the remaining invoice amount upon completion of the skis.  In an effort to keep Folsom’s build queue production flowing smoothly, custom ski orders must have all pertinent build info (specs, construction, graphic, etc.) within 1 year from order / deposit date.  If build info is not confirmed within 1 year of the order / deposit date, the deposit will be forfeited.  Skis will not be shipped or set for pick up until the corresponding invoice(s) is / are paid-in-full.  Add-ons (bindings, custom graphic work, etc.) may be added to the order at the time of deposit, or anytime before the skis are ready for ship / pickup!
