New for 2017
It’s been a busy offseason for the Folsom Team. Our annual Summer Sale was our most successful one to date, and on top of that we built 50 pairs of stock skis for our friends at backcountry.com. The Aspen Highlands Ski Patrol came back for more handmade, custom skis this fall, and we’ve got a batch of 20 pairs headed up to Aspen this month. On top of all this we’ve made some internal changes and are ready to take on some exciting new growth opportunities. Don’t worry, we’ll still be sourcing everything from the US-of-A and producing 100% of our skis in-house at our Denver, CO facility.
Our skis continued to test phenomenally well this year, earning us top picks in both ski tests we chose to participate in. Powder Magazine recognized both the Primary and Trigger II shapes with their Skier’s Choice awards, while Skiing Magazine chose our Completo as one of their Official Selections.
Over the offseason, we’ve optimized the build options for our two newest shapes, the Trump and Catwalk. The Trump is an aggressive, stiff, directional pow ski that (despite your political views) will have you charging big lines with confidence. With a 27m turning radius, the Trump is available in four lengths: 198cm, 193cm, 188cm, and 183cm.
Our Catwalk has sold extremely well as a women’s specific, all-mountain ski. Based off of our award winning Trigger II, we’ve refined the Catwalk to be available in three lengths: 166cm, 163cm, and 160cm. As always camber and rocker profiles are fully customizable on this shape.
Lastly, we are currently tooling what we expect to be our fastest ski to date. Dimensioning in at 132.96.118mm, the Rad Dad will soon be available in both a 200cm full length and a 193cm direction option. With a 25m turning radius and a healthy dose of positive camber underfoot, this ski defines need for speed.
Among the many new graphic topsheet designs we’ve created in house, we are working with two new local artists for the 2017 season. Morgan Wolfers is a 10 year old photographer who was diagnosed with autism at the age of 3. In addition to the Denver Art Museum, Morgan’s work appears on a new line of Folsom Skis’ signature graphics, with proceeds from skis sold benefiting the Blue Ribbon Arts Initiative.
Cyrus Walker is a graphic designer from Montana whose work impressed us enough to host some of his art on our products. He’s got some serious talent and his Folsom graphics can be seen here.
Since releasing our full carbon-fiber builds last winter, we’ve optimized the carbon designs significantly. Through rigorous testing we found the triaxial (30°-60°-0°) 11.7oz carbon gives our skis the ideal balance between lightweight and stable. Pair this with our new aspen / bamboo wood cores and you’ve got one of the highest performing touring-specific skis on the market. To get your pair of full carbon skis, start by filling out a custom fit form. From there we’ll determine what shape and build style will work best for your skiing style.
